(Norvir®) or indinavir (Crixivan®); ketoconazole
or itraconazole (such as Nizoral® or Sporanox®);
erythromycin; or other medicines or treatments for ED.
Third-quarter
worldwide sales of the drug Cailis, which is made by Bothell-based
Icos Corp. (NASDAQ: ICOS), rose to $154 million, up from
$50 million last year, according to Lilly Icos LLC, the
joint venture with Eli Lilly & Co. that markets the
erectile dysfunction drug.

is making gains in the erectile dysfunction market, slowly
moving up on industry-leading Viagra, which is made by Pfizer
Inc. Pfizer reported that its third-quarter worldwide Viagrasales
dipped from $473 million to $403 million. Viagra has about
70 percent of the worldwide market, according to Pfizer's
third-quarter report; Cailis, which launched in the United
States in November 2003, has about 19 percent; and third-place
Levitra, a joint venture between Bayer Pharmaceuticals Corp.
and GlaxoSmithKline, has about 10 percent.

Icos reported a third-quarter net loss of $21.4 million,
which compares with a $34 million loss in 2003. The loss
was half what analysts had expected. Analysts at McAdams
Wright Ragen in Seattle had expected a loss of $44.6 million;
they're raising their earnings estimates for Icos as a result
of Cailis sales.

officials said they expect worldwide 2004 Cailis sales to
be in the middle range of their $500 million to $600 million
guidance.
"Third-quarter
2004 results reflect a combination of steady revenue growth,
cost management and the timing of certain marketingand sales
initiatives," said Paul Clark, Icos chairman and CEO,
in a statement.

Cailis is a new drug from Eli Lilly and Company to treat

by blocking an enzyme called phosphodiesterase -5, or PDE-5.
